About Dr. Bree

Kathleen D. Bree, PsyD, ABPdN

Dr. Bree is the owner and founder of Desert Neurodevelopment, PLLC. After spending 8 years working inpatient and outpatient in a local children's hospital, Dr. Bree chose to expand her service offerings to children outside of the hospital setting through Desert Neurodevelopment.

Dr. Bree is a Board-Certified Pediatric Neuropsychologist, with board certification through the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology (ABPdN). This means she is a licensed psychologist in the state of Arizona, and she has pursued advanced training in the brain-basis of behavior in children, culminating in board certification. Dr. Bree is also authorized to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology (APIT) through PsyPACT with families in PsyPACT participating states.

Dr. Bree's background includes extensive training and experience in the assessment of children ranging in age from infancy through early adulthood, with experience including:

  • Assessing complex cases, such as the impact of medical conditions, prenatal substance exposure, and genetic anomalies on children’s neurodevelopment.
  • Assessing more common conditions, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, and children who have gifted intellect and/or are twice exceptional (2E).
  • Assessing children, adolescents, and young adults for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Not only is Dr. Bree a certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS) with certification in the use of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), but she has taken time to expand her training to include late diagnosis of ASD (e.g., in teens and young adults).

To truly help children and their families, Dr. Bree believes the goal of evaluation must extend beyond simply providing a diagnosis. She aims to partner with families to help them gain a deep, meaningful understanding of their child’s unique way of thinking. In working with Dr. Bree, you will develop greater awareness and understanding of your child’s neurocognitive development, his or her strengths and needs, and his or her point of view. By helping you to understand your child’s experience and the reason for his or her challenges, you will gain the perspective and tools necessary to provide your child, and your family, with the support they need.

Personal Understanding

In addition to her education, professional training, experience, and board certification, Dr. Bree brings a personal understanding to working with parents and their children. She understands the unexpected twists and turns that development can take, from a seemingly healthy pregnancy to an early delivery and NICU stay, from developmental delays to a thriving childhood, from sleepless nights with a newborn to (finally) mostly restful nights with a young child. Parenting and child-rearing are not for the faint of heart, and although they are truly beautiful, wonderful experiences, Dr. Bree recognizes they can also be challenging and frustrating, even for those whose entire career focuses on child development.

Above all, Dr. Bree is here to listen, to connect, and to support.
